# Three subjects, four kinds of page.

The learning half of this site. Each subject below is its own answer — how these foods are made, what food costs in land and resources, and what the evidence says about diets — and every page says who is speaking: this site answering one fixed question at a time, this site arguing a case of its own, other people in their own books, or Open Food Facts' rows exactly as they were written.

Nothing here is ranked and nothing is summarised. Where a module has no page to send you to yet, it says so rather than linking to something that only nearly fits.

Module

## How it is made

What these foods are, how they are made, and what you can actually buy.

Gated answers · [What we know](/what-we-know/) This site, one fixed question at a time, every factual sentence gated

Unedited data · [Open food data](/open-food-data/) Open Food Facts, exactly as they wrote it

Module

## Land and resources

What food costs in land, water and feed, and what the freed land could do instead.

Our argument · [Why food](/why/) This site, in its own voice, over dated sources

The figures · [How foods compare](/why/compare/) This site, charting published datasets and naming the gaps

Module

## Your health

What the evidence says about diets, how strong it is, and where the floor is.

Gated answer · [How do plant-based and animal-based diets compare for health?](/what-we-know/health-comparisons/) This site, one fixed question at a time, every factual sentence gated

## Behind every module

These pages are somebody else's material rather than this site's. The books bear on all three subjects, and the open rows are unedited data.

### [Related books](/books/)

Other people's books — Their authors, each with one checked record and our note.

### [Open food data](/open-food-data/)

Unedited data — Open Food Facts, exactly as they wrote it.

## Why every link names a kind

A gated answer, an argument this site makes, a book by somebody else and an unedited data row are four different claims on your trust, and they are kept apart everywhere on this site rather than blended into one list. A gated sentence passed a publication gate one sentence at a time, with its source, its quote and the date we checked it; an argument is this site's own reasoning and is labelled as an argument; a book is its author's work and we say only why it is here; an open row is somebody else's record, exactly as they wrote it, which we have not checked and cannot vouch for.

This index names those kinds and sends you to the pages themselves. It does not answer anything, and it does not decide what you should read first.
